Letter to Governor

July 25, 2007

Governor Jennifer M. GranholmP.O. Box 30013Lansing, Michigan 48909

Dear Governor Jennifer M. Granholm:

You are doing a really good job of taking care of our state, and I really admire all of the work you are doing. Unfortunately, there are still many problems in our state, one of them being teen pregnancy. I am writing this letter because I believe more needs to be done to prevent teenage, which will in turn prevent all of the issues pregnant teens have to go through. Since 1991, teen pregnancy has declined 33%, but every where I look there is a teenager who is pregnant.

More programs should be developed that tell teens why it is not healthy to be getting pregnant. If teens go to a program that shows what can happen if they get pregnant, maybe they will rethink what they want to do. Maybe they will get scared and say “no.” I know that there are some programs for safe sex, but I think that they should be put in the school for free. How would you feel if your daughter got pregnant because she wasn’t taught the right thing?

Along with these programs, teens should be told how unhealthy having sex is with out knowing if their partner has a disease. They should be told that they could catch a life long disease with no cure. Teens should be taught that they should wait until they are older and more mature. Teens are putting their lives at risk.

In conclusion, I just wanted to let you know how I feel about teenage pregnancy. I wanted to tell you that it is still a big problem everywhere, including our state. Some people need to know about the dangers and how getting pregnant can change lives. Really what I am trying to say is that there are way too many teens getting pregnant and it needs to stop. This is bad for them and the community.
